Hey.

I loved playing Birth of the Federation when I was a kid, it never came out for the Mac but recently I used the tools at portingteam.com to create a Mac version, you can grab it here Link.

I also put up instructions on how to install Mods.

Its probably the best Star Trek strategy game ever made, still fun to play today.

When wineskin sheds the need for X11, I shall become very interested.

I wonder if very, very early Windows 95 games will one day end up running better under Wine than the current iteration of Windows...

wouldn't that be great... but there is no current way to use Wine without X11... Wine, Wineskin, WineBottler, Crossover, PlayOnMac... etc... everything needs X11.

Transgaming has a very rudimentary windowing server to use quartz directly for Cider ports, but they refuse to share any source for it.

Birth of the Federation on Lion

Is there anyway of making this work for Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3?

I would so love to play this game again? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Alex

If you have a newer Mac, Star Trek Online is free to play right now.

the wrapper talked about in this post.. or over at portingteam.com doesn't work?

I downloaded the file and it bounces a few seconds, then goes away.. comes back with a solid light underneath and then closes and that's it.

To be honest I do not understand the porting team and wrappers :(

I would just like to be able to play - sad I know

a wrapper is exactly what it sounds like...

The game is the candy, and you put it inside the wrapper so you can carry it around with you...

You download the wrapper and install the game inside the wrapper. The wrapper is a Mac app, so once the game is inside, you just double click the wrapper like any other Mac app and play your game. How you go about installing a game inside the wrapper depends on how the wrapper is made though... most you find will have directions telling you how to install the game in it.
