For the 16 Pro, do you need to create a backup on a particular iOS on the old phone?

This is more to find out what is the safest, most compatible method.

Should I have my old iPhone updated to a particular iOS before creating a final backup to have the best fallback security if something goes wrong transitioning to a new 16 Pro?

I may not have the old iPhone if I do a trade in.

Just backup normal with a recent update and you will be fine with moving to the 16 Pro.

Has to be equal to or below iOS of the new phone. So unless you're on Beta - whatever you're using, is fine.
