How hard is it to create a simple app that lets you create lists, has alarms that trigger based on time of day and such, and that can sync across the web, a phone and your computer? Tons of reminder apps on the App Store can do this. Microsoft To Do is working flawlessly right now for me. But multiple updates into iOS 13, the release of Catalina and so on, Apple's Reminders are still a complete mess.

I created a test list on my MacBook Pro in Catalina and added a couple of items to the list. Went to beta.icloud.com after probably 15 mins. The list is there, but none of the items in the list. Turned Reminders on my phone back on in iCloud, wait. Does my test list start showing up? Hell no. It starts pulling down old lists that I deleted a week ago when I moved to Microsoft To Do.

I've turned iCloud syncing on and off on the MBP and my iPhone. On my iPhone I actually deleted the Reminders app and reinstalled it from the App Store. Crazy enough, the reminders from MS To Do are able to sync into the Apple Reminders app with no trouble. But Apple's native Reminders stuff in iCloud is a complete s***show.

The old Reminders app was the worst app on my phone/computer. On my Mac, I would often see some items on the list twice and there were all kinds of syncing issues. Seemed to work best when just using my iPhone, but changing the order or simple editing wasn't aways without issues. I am however too lazy to migrate to another service. So far though, no problems with the new version, we'll see.

The old Reminders app wasn't perfect. But with a few hiccups, it worked for me. But ever since the move to iOS 13 beta, mine has been a cluster****. And nothing has fixed it, not deleting all the lists and turning off iCloud syncing (then turning it back on), not using Catalina exclusively on my Mac, none of the iOS 13 updates, not deleting and reinstalling Reminders. It's just ridiculous.

When I tick off a todo, the app either hangs or completely crashes on my phone. It’s completely useless at the moment.

That's what was happening for me before. So I deleted all of the iCloud lists and stopped syncing with iCloud for a while. I downloaded Microsoft To Do and have been using it instead. But my hope was that it was temporary until they got this Reminders mess straightened out. But even on 13.2 beta 2, the issues are as bad or worse than they were before.

I don't know, but it works flawlessly here. I've got two lists of my own, plus one that's shared by my wife. All of them seem to sync just fine.
Of course, synchronization between my Mac and all the other devices was broken for a while due to the upgrade to the new style reminders in iOS 13, but now that I've installed Catalina everything seems to be back to normal again.
