I am very interested in this. Have you added a SSD to it yet? How is the compatibility? Any issues?

I would want to add maybe a 2TB SSD for back up and time machine if possible.

Any pics of your set up with this added?

Yes, I have a Samsung 2TB 860 EVO SSD in the SATA slot and 1TB Samsung 970 EVO Plus in the NVME slot. The 2TB gets close to the 560MB cap on R/W. The NVME get an average of 2730MB R/W.

I’ve got a similar design hub under my Studio. It’s an old USB 3 one originally for Mac Minis. But the big benefit, i hope, is that it lifts the Studio off the desk, so hopefully a little less susceptible to sucking in dust.

Well this is a much better hub being it's Thunderbolt. You should look into it as a suitable upgrade. I also put rubber boots on the bottom of my studio to lift it a bit higher for maximum airflow and to keep from sliding..

The fact that it is Thunderbolt? That should answer your question. There are plenty of docks and hubs out there. This was a suggestion for those looking for a match with the Mini or the Studio.

Sorry, not up to date on all the latest tech. As it's been over a year, is this TREBLEET dock/hub still the best choice for an Mac Studio M1 Ultra, or is there newer/better options out there now?

It will mostly depend on what form factor you want and storage support needed. The Trebleet was designed for the Mac Mini and now the Studio just like those many USB-C hubs that are designed the same. The question should be "what do I need"?

I need something with the same foot print, minimal cabling mess, that won't heat up underneath the Mac Studio and compromise it's thermals. With good back up options, like adding additional SSD drives as I only have 1TB internal SSD on the Mac Studio which is half full already..

That is true. You can see this in their online store for the unit. This has been mentioned prior. Maybe not all but some have a MacBook or Mac that runs BootCamp. Problem fixed. But...that is probably for the few. Will it work via Windows 10 or 11 ARM as a virtual machine on silicon? I'm sure someone has figured it out. But, yes. There should be a firmware version for Mac. One should not need a different OS environment to update the environment that we're committed to.
