You might also want to check beforehand and verify that your local Best Buy is one of the ones receiving iPads. They're only going to be carried by the BBs with Apple "store-within-store" sections. According to the MacRumors' story, that's about 645 stores out of the 1,000 nationwide. It'd really suck to get in line at o'dark-thirty and then find out the store doesn't have any. 
yeah but bestbuy offers accidental warranty, so when the second gen ipad comes out, you can run over your 1st gen ipad, and get a 2nd gen replacement.
Just like how I take my iPhone purchased at an AT&T store back to that store for support and my iPod I bought at Wal-Mart back to Wal-Mart for support.
only 15 iPads at each Best Buy!

I was referring to this person's question. I took their question as "if I buy an iPad from Best Buy, can I take it to the Apple store if I have issues with it"

Does that include the 4 that they are supposed to be setting for display, or is that another 4 so their total would be 19?
after further talking with my friend he told me he might not be able to hold one for me. They told him that employees aren't even allowed to purchase them for this first batch. He still is going to try and hide one to the side for me to ensure I get it but it looks as if I will have to show up early and cross my fingers with the rest.
Good luck with that, I doubt your friend would get away with something like that.
That's entirely false. You can take any Apple product to the Genius Bar, irregardless of where it was purchased. They don't need any kind of receipt or proof of where you bought it. If it is still under the Apple Warranty or Apple Care if you bought it, then they will fix it.
I don't know why people have been spreading around this false information that Apple products bought at Best Buy can only be taken to Best Buy. Of course, you can take it to Best Buy if you want, but it's much wiser to go to an Apple Store if you are still under warranty or Apple Care.
It sure could get crazy next Saturday. We only have 2 BestBuys in all of Oregon that have Apple shops in them. I wonder if Apple Stores will be getting a larger allotment than 15 per store over and above preorders/reserves? We only have 3 official Apple Stores, and they are all in the Portland area.
15 iPads per Best Buy store on April 3. Five of each size. Each store gets another 15 on April 11th. Only Best Buy stores with full-on Apple store-within-a-store
How would they know when your warranty is up if you don't show proof of purchase. The warranty goes into effect when you purchase it. Also how would they tell if you really own it or if you stole it.
Are you serious? They check the serial number. And no, they don't know whether you own or stole it. That's not really their job.
You can argue with me if you'd like, but facts are facts. The Genius Bar takes all Apple products. They'll even look at things that are out of warranty and try to help you out if they can; they just won't fix/replace it for free then obviously. It's not a coincidence that Apple frequently has one of the highest customer service ratings.
Simple. They know by serial number. If bought at Apple they can retrieve the date bought, and obviously within a year of the iPad being released (until April 3rd, 2011) they will know that EVERY iPad at that point will still have a valid warranty.
For 3rd party retailers such as Best Buy, when you purchase your iPad is not when your 1 year warranty starts (through Apple). That warranty starts when the 3rd party retailer purchases the units themselves from Apple.
