For those of you that have used office as well as iWork on an intel

This is not another "which to buy, which has the best features???" post

But!

Does office take long enough to load on an intel that I would be better off enjoying the lightening speed of iWork for my document multitasking?

I need my applications to load fairly quickly as I may use my macbook computer to take notes in class, and every second that I wait counts, expecially if the software is overall sluggish.


Just looking for personal opinions. I'm not investing without assurance...

I am in a similar situation. If you need Excel which most college students do need I would go with MS Office. It does not take that long to load and that is on my friend's 17" iMac Core Duo. But if you are not using excel (non-science or not a business major) then I would say that you would be better off with iWorks 06. That loads really fast. Office is not extremely slow to open but it does take a second. It is just as fast as a PB G4 once it is open.

Office, for now, is the more powerful piece of software (Excel is probably the best thing that microsoft has ever done) and iWork has some catching up to do. If you are taking notes then just use TextEdit it is fine for the most part. Another thing that you might want to think about is the fact that there is pretty much no need to turn off your MBP and you can always have Word running then you just open it up and start typing so launch times should never have to really affect us Mac users. On the other side of the argument maybe you want to give kicka** presentations? Keynote is bar-none the best software to do this with...

I guess IMHO, it all comes down to Excel. I could do everything that I wanted with a good LaTex Editor and Keynote but Excel is essential to me (and most students?) So I use both.
