For those of you who game on the iMac, does the fan get loud? I am thinking of getting a 27" iMac and the only game I usually play is WoW. On my laptop, the fan can get really loud and I have to stop playing for risk of becoming deaf :D

I was wondering if there was a lot of fan noise in the iMac under heavy load when playing games. I never have to worry about fan noise on my PC, since it is tucked away under the desk and I don't notice too much noise from it.

For WoW, I doubt you'd have much to worry about. The iMac is fairly quiet. But at the same time, this is perception, as my current PC is extremely loud.

Now, I won't say deafining loud, as I have 2 Geforce 480's in my PC, and the noise is overrated, but still loud. But the iMac has never even approached even 1/4 of that noise.

Well there is a big difference between a laptop and a desktop, obviously.
I personally don't play games on my computer, that's why I have a PS3 and Xbox, but WoW shouldn't put too much stress on your hardware. WoW is probably one of the easiest games on your system, graphics wise. So yeah, I'm sure you'll be fine.

The fans on my iMac are so quiet I can almost not hear them, it stays that way no matter what I'm doing, albeit Crysis or web browsing.

wow will certainly put no stress whatsoever on the iMac 27", i can run it on my old iMac g3
which only has a 700mhz ppc processor and 16mb graphics ram and 768 pc100 ram

I have the i7 model and it's pretty quiet. Now you can definitely hear the fans when you play a game, but it's pretty darn quiet anyway.

I did notice however that after some firmware update that had something to do with the fan controls made the fan noise a little bit louder. Nothing that'd annoy me anyhow.

I have a 21.5" with the ATI Radeon 4670 graphics card. I was playing StarCraft 2 yesterday with my friend & it wasn't slow at all. Didn't lag or anything. When I closed my game, I noticed that Photoshop was still running.

If my iMac can handle Photoshop & SC2 running at the same time without hearing a peep, a 27" will handle with absolutely no issues.

Not a surprise with GTX 480s :p You could cook eggs with those!

WoW ain't the most demanding game so it'll be pretty quiet and WoW has sound too so it'll make the fan noise to disappear

The wife and I both play WoW on our 24" iMACs. Never had any problems with fan noise. They are pretty quiet even when I force them to crank up the speed.
