I'm willing to bet my left kidney that next year's flagships will feature a 1440p display.

Only that advancements in battery tech are not coming out at the same rate.

Honestly if they stop with the shrinking and making it thinner whe wouldnt have any problem with battery life

What use is thinner and more flexible battery packs/cells if they keep leaving less room for it.

This is getting ridiculous now.

1080p is already an overkill on a phone. I'd be happy with 720p and more performance.

Innovation and real progress isn't happening where it is most necessary: Battery life, cameras, software.

I don't understand the obsession of OEMs making their phones as thin as possible.

Drats, I was hoping my next phone was going to be 4k. Oh well, maybe next year.

You need a fairly high-end desktop GPU to be able to drive a 4K resolution at 60Hz. Displaying images or basic video might be fine, but there's no way you'll be playing games at such a high resolution with the other work that the GPU would have to do for another few years.

I can't tell the difference between fHD and 720p on my phones, viewing the same pictures or movies.

I don't think I'd be able to discern anything greater than fHD on a 5" screen.

Agree 100%. At this point there are only a few laptops with resolutions at or near this.

I love the 1080p display on my HTC One but would gladly trade it for 720p if it meant longer battery life.

MORE BATTERY LIFE.

These display wars are absurd. My iPhone 5 has a resolution less than 720p and its plenty! Extend my battery life and I'll be happier than if you upped the resolution.....

Phones will just ship with 7" screens to accommodate a huge 5000 mAH. However the bezels will be really really thin...

Obviously rubbish on its own but once you connect it via HDMI directly to your TV you quickly realise how good it is :)

I'm still on the note 2 so I can't wait to experience a 1080p phone but battery technology really does need to improve for us to keep going with higher resolutions.
