In light of all this 4.0 multitasking talk, I was just wondering how the battery life of a jailbroken phone running backgrounder is (with things running in the background of course) compared to a nonjailbroken phone running nothing more than the current OS.
Please, also include whether you have a 3G or 3GS.

I use backgrounder with ProSwitcher for free from Get cydia via http://booleanmagic.com/repo. Its like multifl0w much 200% better interface and very polished.

Anyway, I run IM+, Facebook, Skype, Cydia and sometimes a few more at a time and to be honest, everyone needs to stop going on about how it will slow it down. I can say for certain I can run up to 7 apps without seeing any lag.

As for battery - the same. I notice no difference when multitasking, I use my phone throughout the day quite a bit and it still has at least 10% left before I go bed.

Im using an iPhone 3gs. Its fine.

just jailbreak

How backgrounder affects battery life and the speed of your iPhone depends entirely on what and how many applications you background at any given time. By itself I don't believe it has any noticeable affect on either battery life or performance.

lets wait

see what apple actually does rumors have been known to be wrong in the past! and the background program apple uses if they do could be very different from backgrounder.

No diff

I haven't noticed a huge difference in battery life between the non-JB and JB incarnations of my 3GS. I usually run Slacker in the background along with the default background tasks (mail, phone, and so on). If Skype ever fixes their voicemail bug I'll run that, too.

here is my phones battery life.

Jailbroken 3GS with a few sound and visual themes running (wifi blobs logo, apple loaders, 3G fireball)
and backgrounder was installed and used a bit

  1. 3G USAGE: NONE
  2. PHONE CALLS: NONE
  3. TEXTING: NONE
  4. BLUETOOTH: ON
  5. YOUTUBE: 1 HOUR
  6. MUSIC: 46 MINUTES
  7. DICTIONARY USAGE: 30 MINUTES
  8. WEB SURFING 30 MINUTES
  9. VARIOUS APPILACTIONS: 1 HOUR
    THAT IS AN ESTIMATED USAGE

It seems there is some confusion here between background processes and multitasking. :D
