I had silver before and love it. I have Space Black now and it's very cool but for me it's not just the coolness factor, I actually find it more pleasing to the eye while looking at the screen. Having everything all black is much less distracting and helps focus your attention on the screen/content.

I was never a fan of Space Grey though.

Isn't Silver Apple's classic and original color? The Mac Pro, Mac Studio, Mac mini, and their displays are all Silver.

It's their classic color, but not the original color (things were different colors or white in the late 1990s/early 2000s). Silver feels dated though, imo. They have been using silver for nearly two decades now. I've always gone with Space Gray and am excited to get Space Black. Hopefully it carries over to the iPad Pros.

I've had some silver devices recently as I seemed to go through a phase of having everything in space grey. I do like space black - it's a darker grey, but in lower lighting appears to be very black.

The current laptops do look very nice in silver with the black keyboard deck contrasting with it.

What I don’t understand is why Apple didn’t make it black as the name suggests. It’s dark gray.
I'm going to guess that it was either a stylistic reason (it doesn't look as good in all black as we think it would) or something practical about the coating - i.e. with the materials they're using this is as dark as they can make it?

Who knows though.

How do you like the color? Wish you got Silver instead?
I do.. Going to exchange today to silver (I know I'll get roasted, but space black is giving big Dell vibes in low light) once you see this, you can't unsee it. As other's have stated, this color would not be nearly as popular without "black" in the name. If they called this gunmetal or smoke, it would be more accurate but wouldn't attract the larger stealth seeking population. (Space Black and Silver will definitely carry over to iPad Pro Line)

Same. Keep seeing Dell and Razer in my head.

Natural Titanium would have been instant pre-order if it was a choice.

Or perhaps they will make M4 version Space Black more black - one more reason to upgrade from M3 to M4 🤭

I went from silver to space gray when it first came out. Then went back to silver in recent years. Got the space black MBP Pro 14" a couple of days ago and like it. Looks very different depending on lighting conditions and the coating definitely repels fingerprints better than the midnight MBA. I hope they offer the Studio and Mini in space black. Studio would look awesome.

Is the Space Black on these MacBook Pros the same as the Space Black on the iPhone 14 Pro?

Edit: I read a Reddit post that they are exactly the same.

space black is to dark doesnt look like a MacBook and the notch looks bigger as all black frame, and keyboard doesnt stand out, space grey is a million times nicer, im not upgrading now because I hate the space black, looks like a dell, no contrast at all, looks like a windows laptop

I think they have put some coating on it to prevent the kind of aggressive fingerprinting that
was seen on midnight blue MBAirs. Not too impressed by this "new' colour...seems rather
tentative... as if it cant make up its mind whether it wants to be grey or black.

Should have stuck with space grey...I use a silver MBP from 2018, it attracts marks and smudges to
a far lower extent and easily cleaned with a alcohol swab.

Oh yeah, that photo doesn't give good vibes and definitely reminds me of dull black plastic laptops from the 1990s.

I've had three silver MacBooks for close to a decade now. I never really liked space gray as it looked drab and showed smudges more. I wasn’t a fan of midnight either on the Airs. Between the two, I still prefer space black over space gray.

I made the jump to space black, and am happy with my decision. I wouldn't complain if it were a shade darker. I ended up covering my silver MBP with a skin because I just found the silver boring. My silver 2008 MBP has more 'glint' than the current silver IMO. So the darker color is a nice change. Without putting them side-by-side, I do think it could be confused for a space gray, though. Black is a misnomer. As someone else mentioned, gunmetal is probably a better descriptor. Just doesn't roll off the tongue - space gunmetal, lol.
