Is it pretty seamless, or more trouble than it’s worth? I am working on a more desktop setup for my iPP, and sometimes I really miss having a mouse, but not sure if it’s worth the trouble.

Opinions?

I use Logitech mice. For basic movement, and point and click, they work very well.

Scrolling isn’t as smooth as Apple’s Magic Trackpad though.

I use it a lot on my iPad mini 6 when I plug into my desktop workstation and I used it a lot with my Magic Keyboard/iPad Pro combo too. It is definitely more natural-feeling for me if I've placed my iPad in a desktop situation, and I also find it very useful with Universal Control.

The mouse pointer looks and acts a little bit differently on the iPad, but only in ways that make sense. Your brain adjusts pretty quickly and most of the gestures are the same or have an equivalent to the Mac versions.

Yep--for my iPad and 2 Macs, I use the MX Master 3 for Mac and the MX Keys. Though I find the scrolling to be actually a little bit TOO smooth in my setup. It's so fast and responsive it took me a little time to get used to!

I’ve used a mouse, and it was ok, but definitely more a fan of the trackpad. The gestures feel very natural with iPadOS

for me the combination of my iMac with numeric keyboard, the magic trackpad + Universal control make working on the iMac with the iPad Pro as a companion (eg for mails, calendar and MS Teams follow up) very intuitive and definitely an enhancement of my workflow, (Accounting / Reporting).

MX Master 3 here. I don’t care for trackpads, and I don’t care for the touchscreen way of doing things either. Been using a mouse for a few years without issues.

Mouse use is terrible for ipad. It doesn't behave like a normal mouse, and therefore some apps/games etc. don't recognize it.
It just emulated a finger hovering over the screen and touching when you click.
It is my single biggest wish for ios (or ipad os if you wish) to have proper normal mouse support like every other operating system.

What do you mean it doesn't behave like a normal mouse and emulates a finger hovering over the screen? What behavior are you expecting?

I use a mouse in the kitchen, so that I can control my iPad from a distance when eating without having to touch it, mainly for video watching.

The whole mouse and keyboard thing is kind of frustrating on an iPad.

It took me forever to figure out how to do all the basic things like multitasking and returning to the Home Screen, and even after a while it just doesn’t feel natural.

Overall a pretty poor UX development in the name of trying to avoid letting us run macOS on it.

I use a mouse and keyboard everyday with my external monitor as part of my desk setup. I find it to work really well using an extra Magic Mouse I had lying around.

I'm expecting it to work like a mouse on every other operating system. it doesn't.
I don't know how to explain it. But for example, it seems you cannot right-click and hold.

Thanks for all the input! I’m not big on using a trackpad. I have one on the MK for the iPad, but I just can’t get used to it. I’ve been thinking of a setup with a stand, keyboard and mouse when I’d like to be more in computer mode. I would like it to function like a normal mouse though without too much added effort.

I use a trackpad with my 24" iMac, main reason I got the MGK for my 11" iPad pro, could never go back to a mouse only.

Second this. My preference in order:
1. Touch the screen
2. Trackpad in Apple Magic keyboard
3. Apple Magic trackpad
4. 3rd party mouse
5. Apple’s mouse

I personally love it. I have an iPad Pro with Apples Keyboard case with trackpad. When I am not at home, I just use the iPad with the case. When I am home, I plug it into my monitor and I love the setup. I am not really a power user by any means so the apps and with Apples Stage Manager, I think it is just as great as having a Mac. I probably won’t ever buy a Mac again unless Apple just stops making the iPad. Haha.

I am using an iPad 9 with Logitech Pebble M350 a lot. In my opinion the cursor movement is not as "direct" or "snappy" as on the Mac or a Windows machine; especially in bluetooth mode. If I use a USB dongle it improves a bit; I don't think this is specific for the Pebble mouse as I have had the same with another (Logitech) bluetooth mouse.
Regardless, I can be pretty productive with the iPad + bt keyboard and mouse; for me it is enough of a laptop to not need a real one.

I’d just try it out rather than relying on the opinion of others.
Personally, that led me to try Trackpads and trackballs.

I agree that OP should not rely on the opinion of others.

I ended up debating between the first Apple trackpad that clicked and the newest one and then also bought the apple mouse so I could test them all... I ended up keeping the oldest bt apple keyboard and trackpad since it felt the best for long term typing and sold the other ones on eBay... but kept the mouse and gifted it to my pops... for some reason he says he prefers the apple bt mouse...

I use a Logi MX anywhere 3, which mostly replaces a Logi ultrathin mouse. I like that the MX has 3 bluetooth pairings (for me is ipad, laptop and desktop), which is one of the reasons it replaces the ultrathin which has 2. MX has much better tracking than the apple mouse (which doesn't like if my mousemat is in full sun). On ipad there are times when zoom, horizontal scroll just don't work (various apps) but generally its a good experience. Its not as predictable as on a mac, some ipad apps just don't seem to include mouse code (this is an asumption based on how they work not knowledge of how they are written)
