hi guys last time i jailbroked my iphone was two years ago. ever since i used android and im kinda lost now.
quick question. can the iphone 5 be jailbroken and unlocked? what OS and baseband? tether or unthered. ios 6.1 be jailbroken? thanks alot kinda miss jailbreaking iphone and ive tried to find out on my own but all websites show me some fake unlocking software

The iPhone 5 can be jailbroken untethered as long as its running something before 6.1.3. I'm not too informed when it comes to unlocks, but I know the verizon phones are factory unlocked.

If your iPhone is on iOS 6.0 to 6.1.2, you can jailbreak with evasi0n evasi0n.com. It is an untethered jailbreak.

If you are on iOS 6.1.3, there is no jailbreak and the next one probably won't come out until 3-6 months after iOS 7 is released publicly.

Jailbreaking and unlocking aren't the same thing. Software unlocking is pretty much dead. There hasn't been an update to it for 2 years from what I've heard. You would need an IMEI unlock. Verizon devices are the exception though, they are unlocked right from the beginning

what happened to ultrasn0w?

what???? did the JB team find a new way to unlock? or dp people get it ublocked at stores?

There is no use for ultrasn0w anymore. As everyone has mentioned, you just buy IMEI unlocks from ebay for like $5 and you are unlocked forever. No more having to preserve basebands and creating custom IPSW's to keep your device unlocked.

Are you serious? dang

the jailbreak scene has changed a lot ever since after the 3GS

I see, man i remember the the 3G came out in 08, before youtube was that popular. I would stay until 3-4 AM trying to unlock, and preserve Baseband. And unlock with YelloSn0w. So whats up now? no one makes the effort to release them like they used to?

There's very little code to mess around with. Jailbreaking has become really hard too since the bootrom cannot be read so they (the jailbreakers) can only rely on software exploits which are basically one time use
