Many of us already have text messaging plans (I know I pay $14.99 for just my text messages). Since the iPhone plan already offers text messages, what do we/I do? I assume go ahead and activate the iPhone, keeping my current voice plan (I SO hope the rollover minutes don't disappear!), adding in the iPhone plan, and then going back to ATT.COM and deleting my current text message plan? I know I'll find out come Friday, but thought someone might have more insight. Thanks!

I think that should be right, that's what I am thinking when I get mine. Activate, then go on at&t website and remove that text/media plan.
Theoretically, that should work. And, theoretically, it would do it for you. It really depends on how they enter the data plan.
Most carriers when they do package deals like this actually are putting multiple new charges on your bill, its just that most of them cost $0.00. So, in theory, the data plan would be something like:
iPhone Data Plan: $20.00
200 TXT MSG: $0.00
Unlimited Data Usage: $0.00
And so on. So, if it adds the 200 TXT MSG style line on there and sees an existing one, it should remove the old one. However, this is theoretical based on the way the cellular companies usually bill these things. But the only way to tell for sure is to either call them once you've got the phone activated, or to wait to see your first month's bill.

I'm a little baffled at what might happen to my account, although very excited.
I'm currently weaved into a family plan that shares 4000 minutes on a $9.99 additional line sorta thing. I'm super stoked that I can just add $20 and make my plan an "iPhone Plan," as I too have excessive additions to my line for texting, etc. that might get washed away if I just grab one of the new listed plans.
I need to get ahold of my line summary or last bill to see what that thing looks like as well as find out what the bill is supposed to be each month before overages. All I know is that I'll be on a line Friday at an AT&T store, as there are 2 locations within yards of my house, with the plastic in the pocket

All the iPhone plans are renamed MediaMax 200 plans.. It's a huge relief to see that the plan is only $20.
I agree. It actually is a pretty fair deal. I'm on a $35.99; 450-minute voice plan, so as an existing AT&T customer, adding the $40 IPhone (w/ unlimited text) plan still puts me at a little less than I thought I would be spending. I'm paying I think $14.99 for 1000 texts now, and I'm already WAY over this month, so maybe i'll get lucky and the iPhone plan will kick in and I won't even have to pay for the overages
You can probably tell the person selling you the iPhone that you want to drop your current text messaging plan before you leave the store, that way you don't have to go back after you activate your phone.
True, but I was planning on just buying from the Apple store and then leaving as soon as I had purchased. Since there are huge numbers of AT&T customers who have text messaging plans, I'm sure they've covered their bases in this regard. Either it will delete the old plan automatically and the new plan will kick in (again, just referring to the SMS), or it will add on top of the old and I can just go to ATT.COM and delete the now unwanted text plan. Guess we'll find out in 3 days
