In FCP, Rendering all of your footage happens automatically. In iMovie, there's no render bar, but using Activity Monitor, I can see when its rendering and when its not. When iMovie renders is completely random. With every project, some random edit will trigger it to render everything but there's no telling when it will happen. Im on latest version for Mojave. Is there any way to force iMovie to render?

I don’t think there is a command for that, but you might force it by dragging the timeline slider to the max.

The only mention of render in the online user guide
Render Files https://support.apple.com/guide/imovie/set-preferences-mov756ac27d8/10.3/mac/11.5.1
Delete: Click to remove render files from your open libraries, freeing up storage space. No imported media is removed.
Important: If you delete render files while a project is being exported, the export may take longer.
