Hi. In 2014 I bought Disk Drill Pro for Mac and now I need it again. But when I open the app it tells me I need to download the newest version 3, but then i'm giving the message that my activation code does not work with that version?!?!

Can that really be legal? As I see it they have robbed me of my licens for Disk Drill Pro and are forcing me to upgrade to the new version and pay again!

Is there some way I can get the app to run anyway?

Parallels is famous for this. You could be chugging along nicely on a version you have a license for, getting updates (within the same major version), then they release a new version to work with a new version of OS X (or now macOS) and you need to buy a new license for the new version. On top of that, you NEED to buy the new version for support with the new OS.

I have found that I can get two Mac versions for each Parallels upgrade. Parallels 9 for Mavericks/Yosemite and 11 for El Capitan/Sierra. This reduces the pain a bit.

I suspect you were using OS 10.9 or 10.10 in 2014 when you purchased Disk Drill Pro in 2014. Trying to run that same Disk Drill Pro version in 2017 on OS 10.12 may not work properly without an upgrade.

Contact the developer for clarification and options, as already mentioned.

I really hate this software model in general, but when its applied to utility type tools like this its just despicable. A tool that's only used in extreme crisis circumstances and thus only likely to be used once every few years that extorts you for money every time you want to use it is ridiculous. IMO you should find a better software vendor for drive recovery type tools, and just try and keep better backups so the chance of having to rely on them is lessened :(
