is there anyway to force a screen resolution, some file i can edit in single user mode?

i'm trying to connect my mac mini to my lcd tv (via the vga/d-sub in) so i don't have to kvm it to the pc monitor but it keeps trying to set itself to a resolution thats "out of range" of the tv.

I know its not the cable becuase that works fine when i use it with my pc monitor ive tryed deleteing com.apple.windowserver.prefs from /Libary/Prefrances and it didnt make any difference ive also tryed boo

i can boot in single user mode fine but when i try and boot normally it keeps trying to select a res the LCD tv can't do  so if i want to use it with that screen (which id rather like to so i can have it running at the same time as the pc and not have to keep switching a KVM over) i need to stop the mac from being smart and setting a resolution that the screen doesn't like

This one can do it without the GUI.

Execllent, just what i needed :D was able to plug the mac back into the pc moinitor download that, enable SSH reconnect the mac to the LCD TV and then SSH in from the PC and change the settings from there :)

turns out it wasnt the resolution that was the problem, the Mac was trying to set a refresh of 85hz which the LCD TV couldn't do...

Although its now working quite happily in 1280x1024 @ 60hz on the lcd TV, which is why i choose this TV becuase of its computer resolution is acuttly pretty resonable ;)
