autoblog posted some article, did not check it

QNX car stuff you can find in crackberry and I think youtube, for example.

I read there are 200 car models running QNX.

Android Auto runs on QNX.

Apple's CarPlay runs on QNX.

Nokia's HERE Auto can also run on QNX.

BB10 is based on QNX.

And QNX has always been used for a lot of other embedded stuff.

Sync 3 rollout starts in 2015. It will be in more than 50% of their new US cars (Ford and Lincoln) by the end of 2016.

The Lincoln version will have a different look.

I don't know when it starts rolling out in the rest of the world.

Well, at least I know I'll never go Ford again.

BMW's iDrive started with Windows CE, then went to VxWorks, then to QNX.

Changes not properly advertised, Windows was a turnoff.

QNX is a real time OS. Think the kind of OS that is used cruise missiles, medical devices and Airplane controls. Makes sense why it such a good embedded OS.

A car OS has to be realtime. It is not only for entertainment.

2009 data:

F-22: 1.7M LOC
F-35: 5.7M LOC
787: 6.5M LOC

low-end car: 30-50 control units
premium car: 70-100 control units, around 100M LOC

Mercedes Benz S-Klasse: about as many control units as an Airbus A380 (excluding IFE), radio and navigation system only: 20M LOC

In 2008 it was estimated that cars would require 200-300M LOC in the near future.

Sync 3 is produced by Panasonic. They not only make car AV and navigation systems, they are also well-known for making airliner IFE systems.

I think QNX is a better product in this endeavor and its a win for BlackBerry, though I'm sure MS tried hard to keep their business.
