This OS looks really interesting. I want to see one in my hands and feel how it compares to Droid, iOS, or WP8. Having everything be HTML5 seems like it could cut out a LOT of processing power and have it still be fast. It's a fascinating experiment at the very least.

Agree completely.

They are at pains to state that this is for emerging markets without powerful phones - it makes perfect sense.

Gotta be honest, I could totally imagine Firefox making a good mobile OS. If anyone could, they could.

I support any kind of open source OS because frankly, it gives power to anybody out there instead of a corporation, but Firefox OS is going the wrong way with how an OS should be.

Tizen is more promising but that's html5 as well.

We need an open source version of Debian for mobile phones.

There's really no room for more than three players in the smartphone OS arena...

iOS
Android
Windows Phone
Nokia MeeGo (R.I.P.)
Blackberry
... Mozilla OS

Keep them coming... the more smartphone OS there is, the more choices for people.

Eventually something will come out of all these Smartphone OS's.. Hopefully something evolved and more mature. An ultraphone OS?

Meego is dead, Blackberry is rushing headfirst to its grave, and Mozilla OS has 0 market share. Windows Phone is struggling enough as it is, there's not enough room for that many players to sufficiently compete.

Come on man. Really? That's just anti-competitive talk. There's room for as many as the market demands.

----------

Meego is dead, Blackberry is rushing headfirst to its grave, and Mozilla OS has 0 market share. Windows Phone is struggling enough as it is, there's not enough room for that many players to sufficiently compete.
You mean:

-Meego was gutted by Microsoft in an anti-competitive move.
-Blackberry has yet to display its own prowess at the new rules Apple made for the game
-Mozilla Firefox OS has yet to come out of Alpha stage.
-Windows Phone is being artificially pumped into the market by Microsoft dollars made from Android.

Really now. Do you have any semblance of reality when it comes to mobile OSs?

The market, and development community will not bear or tolerate more than three major players at best, with only two gobbling up the lions share.

Where Firefox would fit in is unknown, but I don't see it displacing iOS. Not even a little.

I'd say more like 5-6.
