Forget the countless f*** ups with MobileMe so far. How about basic features like bolding words in an email? Where are things like text color? Alignment?

These are basic features since the beginning of email time. What's going on!?

are we talking on the iphone or what?

also, i dont know a whole lot of people who use any of those regularly (tho it really should be there)

Through the actual MobileMe website on a desktop.

And you're saying you never use bold or italics? Do you actually use email?!

I've never used bold or italics in an email... some of us can actually get our point across speaking intelligently and without caps, bold or any other character decoration.

However, with that said, it is kind of asinine for them to not include it in their online email editor. Gmail does it with no problem... why not a service we're actually paying for?

With all of these numerous threads about this problem, that problem, etc, etc, all we can do is hope that any number of features will be added within a short while...

Comments like this are completely maddening. I feel it's how it'd be when talking to George Bush.

There are so many reasons italics and/or bold are necessary your response is almost scary. Also my list is missing basics like fonts, size of text, lists, etc.

I thought I'd pick the most basic of features that we're spending a portion of $99 on. Apparently, you can get your point across without any of this. For the rest of us who handle different items beyond e-mailing our friends a few sentences, these other features are used often.

Wow. How do you function in your every day life? I mean, if little things like a missing bold/italics function make you so furious, I'd hate to know how you react to something serious.

hmm I'm as annoyed as the next person about the mobileme fiasco but...bold and italics? in email? really not necessary, and in fact annoying - I sometimes have to remind Mail.app that it should be composing plain text not rich text.

Holy mother of God.

I think the apologists here are so bizarre. The most basic features in an e-mail since ever isn't in MobileMe mail and this is on top of all the other mishaps.

Whether you use it or not is besides the point. I may as well go into the threads discussing the mess ups with Outlook not syncing and go, "Well, I don't even use Outlook, so I have no idea what the issue is. You must be a small person to get annoyed over it."

You two are prime examples of this really bizarre hurdle to overcome in forums when people are just looking for answers.

What's wrong with you?

Can you really not imagine a situation where using bold or italics in an email message is not only appropriate, but necessary for clarity?

There's a special place in hell for Apple apologists.

I cannot seriously believe this,
EVERY SINGLE EMAIL SERVICE HAS THIS!!!!!

and for those who think they dont need it, some others do,

for instance when I email my grandparents, I like to send in BIG & COLORFUL TEXTS

So they can read it easier,

should I STOP emailing them at Apple'd discretion???
and btw, I really love apple and hope this all works out

Careful, these fools in here don't use that feature, so just move along. It's obviously an unimportant feature since cloudnine and tallyho don't use it.

me thinks that apple had to rush mobileme to get it put into public. im sure they will be putting out new features and fixes almost daily. maybe im going easy on em, but idc. :apple:

every major email service now has rich text editing, right?

I don't even know where the difficulty is, apple is that weak?

I thought they had simply overlooked the inclusion of the buttons for those functions but when I tried command+b and the like, nothing happened. :(

Apple, you said "desktop class" applications...

Clevin, are you having a bad day? I agree with you, rich text doesn't seem too difficult, but calling Apple weak sounds like you have your trolling motor out... ;) :p :D

what do you call it then :p? I don't call things weak when they are not. I mean, I understand if there are technical difficulties, but com'on, the tech is 3 years old and is widely used, where is the problem?

The service is normal at best, and apple was the one to hype this to be something huge, now its caught, thats it.

I know apple's PR is powerful, design is elegant, and I also know their substance is weak compare to what they want people to think about their products. This is a especially clear example.

Actually, if you go back and re-read cloudnine's first response to you, s/he said that even though they don't use it, "it is kind of asinine for them to not include it in their online email editor. Gmail does it with no problem... why not a service we're actually paying for?"

Don't assume that everyone that doesn't agree verbatim with your opinion is here to apologize for Apple, especially if you're going to be as snarky as you were with your "Do you actually use email?!" and "Comments like this are completely maddening. I feel it's how it'd be when talking to George Bush." replies.

I'm surprised nobody's

this thread for the tone you set yet. It seems destined for the Wasteland.

Please keep on topic. Comments like, "some of us can actually get our point across speaking intelligently and without caps, bold or any other character decoration" is hardly an innocent remark. My question "Do you actually use e-mail?!" isn't meant to be snarky, it was meant to be funny while expressing my disbelief that someone had never/rarely used bold/italics in an e-mail before. I still can't believe it. If it reads as snark, I apologize.

Whether someone's rare use of bold/italics is true or not, I could give a flying nun about it. People who put others down for wanting answers to a simple complaint/question shouldn't be responding. Besides, the person I responded to originally never even responded as annoyed to my original response, so if you and someone else interpret it that way is hardly my concern. If you think things should be handled in a civil manner, then defending cloudnine's route is hardly proving your point.

Now, can we actually discuss the topic. What's going on with these missing features? Are they coming, are they pulled while they're fixing things? Does anyone know?

Also, as if this somehow needs clarification. I DON'T CARE IF YOU DON'T USE THESE FEATURES. Others do, and if you'd like to be helpful, by all means go ahead. Otherwise, you can ignore the thread entirely.

The only people that know the definite answer to your question work for Apple and have signed a NDA that doesn't allow then to comment on future features or products.

I don't recall seeing any screen shots of the features you're talking about in any of the MobileMe videos posted to date. Between that and the web email piece of MobileMe looking like a redressed version of the .Mac one (i.e. prettier, but basically the same functions as the old .Mac email), I wouldn't be holding my breath that these features will be appearing anytime soon.

Hopefully I'm wrong.

I never had .Mac, so I have no reference to how it used to be, and I definitely assumed something as simple as bold/italics would be included in MobileMe's features. I just can't wrap my head around the idea that anyone should've looked at the feature list or videos and actually consciously scanned to see if those features were included or not. No other program or online webmail that I've ever used were missing these simple features, so you can technically place the blame on me, but I also feel it's a ridiculous thing to be missing.

I'm sorry to hear that it may not be happening. I hope you're wrong too :(

Sisko, let me sum it up by saying I agree 195% with everything you're saying...the problem is that you're trying to argue to Mac crowd that something on their Mac isn't perfect. It's a losing and impossible battle. These are the same guys that see those Mac vs. PC commercials and think "Hell YEA! Way to go Mac! All things not Mac are the OMGSUXORS!" They drank the kool-aid long ago, let them be.
