Forgot administrator username/password

Hello all, I am able to login to my MacBook Pro but the issues arise when I have to make any changes to the Mac and the system preferences login arises. Since I have only one administrator account I don't know what to do to fix it. It just won't let me unlock.
Do I have to do a system reboot?
