Im visiting my sister up in college and on her iMac 2.4ghz she forgot the password and lost the disks that came with it (think it has to do with her hair color  ). So i ordered off ebay the install disks. here is the link- are these what i need to reboot everything? I told her already that shes going to lose everything. Here is the link- http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110276824691

Just call Apple and they'll send you ones for free. Also the seller can't sell the Restore discs without the computer.

if you just want to reset a login password you can use a retail leopard install disc and start form it there is an option to reset password, or you can take to an apple store or an authorized service provider they can do it as well that way no data is lost

can i use the mac os x install disk that came with her friends macbook? I tried putting it in and holding c and nothing happened but its also not a regular apple keyboard. It is a Microsoft wireless one.

That disk is specifically for the MacBook. You'll have to either use iMac disks [specific to your sister's iMac] or a Leopard retail disc like stated by SwitchingtoMAC.

Do i need the disk that came with the machine only or will the one i purchased off ebay work? The guys said they work with a iMac 2.4ghz which is what my sisters got.

I'm pretty sure they will, not 100% positive. I did a Google search and found results where people say the discs are specific to the kind of machine, not the individual machine itself. So you should be fine as long as the discs you found match the spec's of your sister's iMac...someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It was my sister and we ended up finding the disks and getting it figured out. Thanks everyone.
