Forgotten Apple recall from 2008

Came across this story and found it interesting because with all the stories written about the IP4, and everyone talking about Apple and its history ad nauseum, everyone overlooked a recall that took place two years ago:

You can call it an "exchange program" all you want; a euphemism is a euphemism. I suppose you could call an abortion a mom's second chance if you wanted to, also.

Incidentally, I spent some time playing with the Droid X and have ruled it out. Not impressed with the app store as of now. So if you're going to factor out the apps from the mobile experience, does one really need a $200 phone to surf the web? I may do a 3GS but I will pass on the Droid.

but.. there's nothing wrong here. The antenna has improved over any other phone. I've never had such good reception. And the 100 million was over the last 5 years..

The USB power adapter recall was less of a minor cost hit than the free cases deal will be.

You can't recall a product that pleases a high percentage of its users and is in no way dangerous. What are they going to do if I refuse? I don't want my phone recalled.

Effectively there is a voluntary recall in place for anyone not happy with the device and I recommend all those unhappy do just that and return it. For everyone else who is more than happy with the phone, lives in a country with decent GSM service and doesn't experience any of the over publicised problems this is all a fuss over nothing.

What do you mean if you refuse? If a recall took place they don't kick your door down to get the product back, it's up to you.

There is such a thing as "mandatory recall" it's rare though usually issued if a product is considered dangerous

Exactly, there was a potential safety issue involved there which is not present with the iP4. Also the power adapter was truly defective not just an arguably poor design choice.

I think Apple's resolution of the iP4 is a fair one. It may not be satisfying for some, but it was a realistic solution - extend return, waive fee & for everyone else a free case. There have been plenty of products I've begrudgingly passed over for lesser reasons.

Well I know but that would only be if they had decided to make the phone with a nuclear reactor as a battery and it was going into meltdown for
everyone or something
