Hi all.

My uncle give me an iMac G3 becouse he want me to format it.
Now,i've a lot of experince in Windows/Linux formatting.
But it's the first time in my life i use an iMac so i prefer to
ask adivice insted making mistakes.

Now,i've this iMac G3 and these CD:
-"iMac Software Install";
-"iMac Software Restore";
-"MKD Bundled Software" (i think this's a third-part CD);

What have i to do to format the pc and then reinstall the OS?

Thanks.

During the installation process (at the beginning) you can go on the menu and use the disk utility tool to format the hard drive. You then don't need to go any further with the installation if you just want to format it.

I need to format and re-install the operating system.
Which disks i've to use in order to do this?And in wich order?
Will i need a product code?

Thanks.

the install cd should suffice.

no you wont need any product code :)

Perfect,

another question,i've read that a lot of users seems to install on this machine Mac OS Jaguar instead of MacOS 9 (that's what i've now here).

Is adviced to do so or Jaguar could be too 'heavy' for this machine?
If is better Jaguar OS,have i to buy it or can i download it from apple site becouse i've already the Mac machine?

Thanks.

jaguar would be a major improvement to it, lots of undercaridge improvements, you would have to buy it second hand, although i'm sur eyou can find it elsewhere if you look

Ok, thanks to all.

Now i've formatted and reinstalled Mac OS,but i've see that the version is 8.5
Is there a way to update to 9.1 (that was installed before) or a version near it?
I've see that in control panel there no "Self Update" so i don't know where to find updates.

Thanks.
