I have a 1GB iPod that was originally used in a windoes based system for some time. Now I want to format it in os x as I don't use it with windows anymore and in iTunes it says "only mac formatted ipods can be updated" In disk utility I was about to format but got a message saying "formatting this iPod will cause it to loose some functions". I don't want to loose any functions though. So how would I go about formatting this thing?

The restore option in iTunes should do the trick. Do a backup before restoring though since you want to keep your files.
