FORMAT my iphone but remain unlocked?

Hi guys,

I'm new to iPhone and i was thinking to get an iPhone 3G now, and i know dev team is working on the new pwning tool. But before i buy, i have a question here...If one day, there's too much apps and crappy stuffs in my iPhone, and i want to "format" everything in my iPhone to a blank one, am i possible to do that? And remain the phone unlocked? Or i have to restore the phone to original and unlock myself? Is there a way to create a full backup file (include cracked firmware) for my iPhone? So whenever i feel like restoring back, i can just use the file....Thanks guys.

the way the pwnage tool works is creating a custom firmware of lets say 2.0, when you hit the restore button remember to do it while pressing alt. then choose the custom firmware, and it should be back to blank, jail broken and unlocked.

I see, say if i buy an unlocked, jailbroken 3G iphone now, then i can just create a custom firmware using pwning tool? So is the custom firmware created depend on my iPhone current state? Means that if my iPhone is already unlocked and jailbroken, and installed some apps, is the custom firmware include these information? I watched some tutorial video as well, but they click on "Pwning" first then they create a new custom firmware, is the pwning already unlock the phone? Or is it the custom firmware? Or is it possible for me to use other people custom firmware?And allow me to ask a question...why you have to press shift when click the restore?

I don't know anything about Pwnage, but I imagine that holding alt just allows you to select a firmware in itunes, rather than itunes automatically selecting the most current revision.

to my understanding pwning the phone only tricks it on accepting the custom firmware. So I dont know what they used to unlock ur phone, if they indeed used the pwnage tool, I dont see a problem just creating a custom firmware. I would still pwn it just in case. Its easy and wont take you more than 15 minutes. I dont think pwnage tool will allow you to create a custom firmware withou pwning the phone first.
