Hi

I've just bought a new 24" iMac - due Friday or Monday. I'm used to getting new PCs and then formatting the harddrive to get a clean installation sans the OEM installed bloatware.

Is this advisable for the iMac? Take it out of the box, drop the OSX disc in, do a format to delete everything and then do a clean install?

Thanks

You certainly do not need to do that. Macs are not bloated with programs you do not need. Some contain 30 day trials of some software (like iWork and Microsoft Office) but they don't activate until you turn them on.

When I have gotten things like that when getting a new mac, I just drag the program to the trash and delete it. You certainly don't need to worry about things like AoL or whatever pre-loaded on your computer, spyware, security ware, etc.

Thanks - it comes with iWork and Office 2004 30 day trials. I just have to drag those to the bin and they're gone? No "uninstall software" in the control panel? Cool!
