Formatted HDD But Won't Back Up?

I formatted my external hdd to fat32 from ntfs but when i try superduper it says that i need to format it AGAIN to mac extended format. Wtf is this about?

Well, that's a windows format isn't it? Don't you want it to be formatted for a Mac? I think that it should work formatted like that, but why deal with the limitations unnecessarily? Unless you want to use it for both windows and os x...
