So I just installed a new 160G hard drive in my G4 dual 867 MDD that had a 60G drive previously. It is not showing up or recognized when I boot from the cd. I'm not super techie so not sure what I have missed doing. The new drive is a Western Digital Caviar EIDE Ultra ATA/100. There was info on setting "jumpers" but I have no idea. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If it is the only hard drive in the machine, it should be set to Master on the jumpers. Instructions are glued onto the top of the drive how to set the jumpers. They are the little plastic blocks that go on pairs of pins on the business end of the drive.

Boot From the CD -- under the Installer menu (OS 10.4) there is an option to open Disk Utility. (location lay be different in earlier OS vers).
Open Disk Utility, select the icon of the new drive, choose the Partition or Erase tab. Partition it if you want to , don't worry if you don't know what that is.
Choose Macintosh Extended for the format type, and let'er rip.

Then you can Install OSX on the new drive

Great. I did that and now I see a hard drive when I go to install but it has a red exp point and won't let me install on it. I'm quite clueless at this point.
