i am upgrading my iMac g5'd hdd to 500gb, and selling the 250gb drive thats in it, how do i format the drive while its in my iMac.
 
Boot from your OS CD/DVD, and go to Disk Utility from one of the menus at the top. That should give you options to format the drive, and erasing free space.

You may want to have this done a few times so that you ensure your data is completely erased...

A standard format, even if done multiple times, won't make the data any more 'erased'. Use on of the secure format options instead.

That's correct, I couldn't remember what this was called in the options of the Disk Utility.
