Hi All,

OK got new 2TB WD HDD - everything looks fine with physical box so far.

Getting a bit lost with how to format it. Looked on You Tube, some mixed advice, including formatting to ExFat?!

Is my settings below ok?

For just a Time machine drive - is "Apple Partition" better? Or better to stick with the "GUID Partition Map"??

Please assist

Regards
Martin

PS:
Any links to proper steps would be much appreciated!

Your settings are fine. Always use GUID unless you’re working with a legacy Power PC Mac. ExFat is a format window can read and is usually how drives are formatted when they leave the factory. In cases where you’re dealing with both Mac and PCs you may want to leave a portable thumb drive formatted as ExFat. That way data can be read by both platforms.

Thats not the case here. Time Machine requires a drive formatted exactly as you’ve done it. In fact if you try to use an improperly formatted disk as your TM disk you’ll be prompted to erase the disk and TM will format it for you.

If you're going to be using this drive with Macs (no windows connections), use Disk Utility to erase it to:
"Mac OS extended with journaling enabled, GUID partition format".

THAT'S the format you want for Mac usage.
