I need to update firmware on my OWC SSD and instructions call for restoring update dmg file to usb drive formatted as master boot, fat 32 with Disk Utility. I see no options for master boot. Will this be the default if I simply choose Fat 32? If not, how do I ensure the master boot formatting? Thanks for any help.

That is correct. Erase it for MS-DOS (FAT) (the selection in my Disk Utility 13 on OS 10.10.5) and it will automatically be Master Boot Record partition table. I just did a test with a USB thumb drive to confirm it.
