I want to format my G5 powermac. I want to maintain my itunes library and e-mails/e-mail contacts. I've copied my itunes library onto another disk so I think I'm good on that but I'd like to make sure I maintain my current emails and email contacts. Anyone know how would I go about doing this?

thanks.

The easiest way to make sure everything personal is backed up is to drag your entire Home Folder over to your backup source. Then you know everything is backed up.

You can get to your home folder by double clicking on you hard drive. Then double click on Users. Your home folder will be right there and should have a picture of a house as the icon. Drag the pic of the house to your backup source.

This will back up your emails, documents, bookmarks from any browser, Music, Photos, Movies, Address Book.

Then when you format and reinstall OS X, ONLY drag back what you need. Don't drag back the entire Home folder.

The specific folders you'll need to backup are (assuming you use Address Book.app and Mail.app):

/Users/myname/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
/Users/myname/Library/Mail

Of course, substitute 'myname' with your actual username.
