Interesting and not farfetched video regarding the forthcoming 10th gen iPad. Is this what we’ll most likely get?

If this is indeed what we get I can see myself picking up one of them. Finally going USB-C wouldn’t be bad, but holding close to the current price would make what is already a good buy even better.

Probably going to keep the same design since it would be very similar to the Air and Apple can’t have that.

The iPad and iPhone SE will be dinosaurs for years to come.

The 9th gen is a damned good value for a mass market tablet, particularly the 64GB version. It’s arguably the best tablet that can be bought for the money. It’s also Apple’s #1 selling iPad.

There are those around here who snootily dismiss and look down on the mainstream iPad, but for 80-90 percent of consumers it’s ideal and more than they actually need.

If it had a laminated display then I would at least entertain it but that’s a deal breaker.

It's something you can get used to.
I switched from a - laminated - Air2 to the 9th last year and the 9 is a solid device with an excellent display, much better brightness uniformity than the Air2. Reflection is not the only problem a display can have. I think it took me a week or so to no longer notice the higher level of reflection. Ymmv of course.
The 9 has some strong points compared to the other tablets as well: the headphone jack and the long-lasting battery. The Air2 we had was quite a bit thinner, but the battery was so-so. I much prefer the thicker 9 with a few extra hours of runtime.

I hope they do release the Ipad 10 at at the mid £300 price range in the Air/Pro design, with A14 and 4GB RAM. This will sell like hotcakes for sure. It does not matter if its similar to the iPad Air 4 as that was released in 2020, and we are now in 2022.

Shocking? Should only be sold to kids? We all have different tastes and priorities but I don't know if hyperbole like that helps anyone.

Were you able to examine a 9th gen iPad in person before buying one? It seems like a few minutes in the store would've shown you what you needed to know. If you WERE able to try one out in a store, what did you discover about the iPad in 30 minutes at home that wasn't evident at the store?

Maybe the issue was the quick turn around time. 30 minutes was not giving it much of a chance! After all, you had two weeks to return it…

The one thing you cited was the glare. Were you trying to use it outside, next to a lamp, or under overhead lights? We often turn lights off when using our iPads.

Were there other problems?

”should only be sold to kids“?! LOL! That’s why millions of adults use it and like it! Maybe it requires being a kid at heart…. That hyperbole is likely why you’re getting pushback…

Have you used an iPad before? Had you read online reviews and analyses by MR members? Surely, you must have seen glare mentioned as well as enthusiastic comments.

Which iPad are you getting instead?

White spot issue...if its iPP 10.5->Air3->iPad 10 upcycling done by Apple.

If its full redesign, then great!

Although it seems widely derided around here the broader consumer base loves the home button. I’m suspecting Apple could likely retain that feature even with a new design that could echo the old iPad Pro 10.5.

I presently have an old 10.5 Pro and it still works like new. But my mother is using a 6+ years old 9.7 (can’t recall the generation) and it’s really creaky. She uses it only for a few simple games, and good thing because for anything internet related it’s brutally slow. I could give her my old Pro and pick up a new 10th gen iPad or maybe an iPad Air for myself.

We have multiple older generation iPads as well as the new Air and mini 6 at home. The old case design is much more comfortable to hold (particularly the scalloped sides and large bezels). I bought big fat rounded edge cases for our new iPads so they don’t dig into my palms. I might consider going back from the Air to the 10th gen. All I want is 4GB ram

I used an iPad Mini for a couple of years, but eventually I found it simply too small for my liking so I sold it. Thats when I got the Pro 10.5. Big difference.

Given there's potentially nothing else suitable that's already been used, the iPad Air chassis might actually be the cheapest option over developing and tooling for a new design. They were willing to do a custom design for the 8th Gen iPad though, so keeping the Home Button design for the front face, but squaring off the sides to allow for Pencil 2 compatibility so they can move away from lighting in favour of USB C and discontinue the pencil 1 is a definite possibility.

The moderator *rightly* cautioned me on the post that was originally in this space. They kindly left all of my comment in place except for an “Oh, well” and the final sentence, which deserved to be deleted.

In re-reading all that remained, however, I realized that it wasn't advancing the discussion, but was rehashing the points that I and others had already made. So, I overwrote it with these paragraphs.

My apologies to all involved and to anyone that I might have offended. My thanks to the moderator!

Minimo, thanks for your input on the holding issue. I've often wondered about the small bezel iPads. I understand that Apple has some sort of thumb-grip ignoring algorithm, but can just see inadvertent taps happening, anyway!

What have others found?

Given the battery hit we've experienced with iOS 15 on our iPad Air 2s, an iPad 10 (or 9 on discount) is appealing…. The form factor will matter.

More RAM would be quite good, too!

I've never had a spurious input issue with any iPad, personally. That said the iPad 9 is a solid value, and if you've been happy with your Air 2's this long I expect you'd be fine with it unless the non-laminated display is a dealbreaker.
