unless apple starts competitively pricing i don't think they'll be gaining as high of an advantage as they expect

Apple has never competed with the market on price, and they have no reason to. Their offerings are not outrageous, but they are no walmart. If they did try and be a low cost leader I think they would inevitably tank.

Apple prices its computers and other hardware like any other quality retailer. You don't expect to buy a Sony for $400, so why expect a macbook to go for that much? Apple doesn't want to get the attention of that market, and it's doing fine for them if the last several quarterly results have been any indication.
