Forwarding all mail (inc. spam/junk) from Gmail to iCloud problems.

Folks,

I tried switching to iCloud for my mail but as it wont pull my Gmail via pop3, I can have Gmail forward my mail, however it will NOT forward the spam, dispite setting up a filter to bypass the spam label and put every thing in the inbox (which it does, it just wont then forward them to iCloud).

You may wonder why I want the spam... well I don't as such, however I check my spam folder often for flase spam (emails I actually want) and don't want to be checking two different email providers every day.

If I can't figure this out I'll just stick with Gmail.

Any suggestions?

Have you checked the iCloud spam folder? Also, are these spam messages really spam or mismarked? If they're real spam, iCloud could be dumping them.

When you switch email addresses, your best bet is to have everyone start using the new address. You may need to check the old address every so often for people/companies you forgot to notify.

The messages I was testing with are actual spam. I did check the spam folder in iCloud - it was empty. The strange thing is that the Spam from Gmail was ending up in my Gmail bin (suggesting it had been forwarded) but never actually making it to iCloud's spam folder - I figured Gmail wasn't forwarding/filtering correctly, but it might be that iCloud is deleting them? I figured every thing should appear in there and just delete after so many days... as my Gmail seems to do. Are you telling me that if something is deffinitely spam, it'll be deleted and not appear there?

Many (not all) mail providers actually filter out some spam and discard it. Anything with known phishing links (for example) in it has a good chance of being discarded outright instead of just being marked as spam.

This makes sense and sounds like what could be happening. I'll experiement for a while. Thank you.

Hi I have exactly the same problem. I am forwarding my Gmail emails to iCloud this way :

Some emails end up in my Gmail trash (as they should) but without being forwarded. Or maybe they are, but they are not anywhere on my iCloud, not in INBOX, not in Spam, not in Trash.

I put the above rules instead of a standard forwarding to deal with emails send to myself sometimes when I want to send me a document, since it's not working properly with standard forwarding.

As you can see I trying everything to keep my emails "alive" : Skip Inbox, Mark as read, Forward to ******@me.com, Delete it, Never send it to Spam, Mark it as important

But it's not working. Some emails (and more precisely: apparently all emails from some senders) are not showing up in iCloud. If I am getting this right, everything's fine on Gmail end, the problem comes from iCloud pre-filtering out and discarding some emails which are permanently deleted.

Is there a fix for this ? Should I notice Apple/Gmail about this ?

I have looked for alternatives since this issue isn't new, and Apple doesn't seem to care about it. So, assuming Gmail is working fine, here are the alternatives if you want to push Gmail emails:
- NOT WORKING ANYMORE: Google’s Sync Services for Gmail, which allowed iOS users to access their Gmail accounts via the Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) protocol, which enables to "push" emails (server m.google.com)
- ONLY AVAILABLE ON MOBILE: Use Google’s Gmail app with iOS notifications
- BEST: Forward emails to another push account. Hotmail, Outlook, AOL, Yahoo and any Exchange Server-based mail provider can each be set up as a Push service.

I chose Outlook. You can even upgrade from Gmail to Outlook with this tool: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook-com/gmail/

But I preferred doing the forwarding my self instead of move everything on Outlook. This way, if Google enables push on Gmail one day, I will simply come back to it.

MEANWHILE : MY ABOVE QUESTION ABOUT iCLOUD IS STILL OPEN: IS THERE SOMETHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO PREVENT iCLOUD FROM DELETING PERMANENTLY SOME EMAILS ?
