Ok you have commented on every damn post ive made, please be respectful, if you recall i wanted to use this as everything but my phone including planner, email, ipod, and then get a contract when my current one with verizon ends. Please be respectful of my posts and other peoples posts and please stop with the sarcasm

The better idea is to do what others have been talking about...
Getting a discounted phone prior to getting the iphone, sell it or keep it. Also get iphone (it isn't discounted anyway). You'll have a 2 year contract regardless, you might as well get a cheap phone out of it.

I'm pretty sure that you can return it if you bought it at the Apple store

A 2 year contract is required with the iphone. Doesn't even matter if you have an existing contract with AT&T.
The question is will it continue to work w/o a working cell phone. AT&T could in theory disable the SIM remotely.
keep dreaming. their contract states that if you cancel in the 1st 30 days you have to turn in any equipment you bought with that contract. so they'll refund you the cost of the iPhone, probably minus more than 10%, and say peace out. you don't get to keep it unless you pay an ETF.
I'm guessing that once registered the SIM will allow the syncing with iTunes even if cancelled at 14days. You still won't be able to use the phone function as the 'dead' SIM needs to be in place so you can't put another SIM in. WiFi should work I reckon as this isn't a phone function.
Maybe, I'm guessing, but how would the handset know? if you don't connect to the iTMS account linked to the iPhone registration after canceling it can't can it?
I contacted ATT directly yesterday and was connected to the iPhone Customer Service Manager. Very Nice Lady. She said they have been getting alot vof calls regarding the phone locking up. She said that once it is activated, it would continue working even if you cancelled the plan. I gave her the scenario of getting it as a GoPhone and then leaving to go abroad. She said i could still use it as an iPod and movie played just not as a phone or get any EDGE data.
Seems like she's contradicting what feelthefire's been reading in the contract.

No GoPhone has a Pick Your Plan option which is just prepaying for a month of service with no contract with the same SIM, as in you would activate it as a GoPhone with the existing sim. Look it up on the website. ATT and Apple documentation said the GoPhone option is allowed only once you fail a credit check. So its possible i just need to fail a credit check which i cant
OK sounds like that'd work then. We don't have similar plans here, it's either contract or straight PAYG.

Are you sure about this? I'm a Cingular customer and as far as I know, if you cancel within 30 days you have to pay retail for the phone (i.e. if you got a free Sync, you are charged the ~$300 (or whatever the retail price is) if you don't return it (because those have a 30 day return policy). But I've never heard that you have to -return- the equipment... what are they going to do, put you in jail? I assume other carriers work this way. Since the iPhone is NOT discounted, it'd be interesting to know if you can do this. I'd actually be interested in this... the iPhone can do the following:
* WiFi - browsing, email
* Word and PDF viewer
* Video iPod
That I'd be interested in, all in that gorgeous screen. I wonder if those features would continue to work. Someone try it
Once you take into account the price of a video Nano (~$250) and a device that plays videos in big screens like Archos devices (~$250) and the browsing, email, and PDF viewing, $600 just for those three things doesn't look bad at all.Would this work in setting up an extra line and cancelling it? Hhhmmm...
