Are you serious about this? I dont wish to sign the 2 year contract.![]()
The question is will it continue to work w/o a working cell phone. AT&T could in theory disable the SIM remotely.
I'm guessing that once registered the SIM will allow the syncing with iTunes even if cancelled at 14days. You still won't be able to use the phone function as the 'dead' SIM needs to be in place so you can't put another SIM in. WiFi should work I reckon as this isn't a phone function.
They can make any features they want conditional on an active sim card. They could well disable everything but the start screen if the contract is cancelled. We have to wait for someone to gamble and try it.
Maybe, I'm guessing, but how would the handset know? if you don't connect to the iTMS account linked to the iPhone registration after canceling it can't can it?
I contacted ATT directly yesterday and was connected to the iPhone Customer Service Manager. Very Nice Lady. She said they have been getting alot vof calls regarding the phone locking up. She said that once it is activated, it would continue working even if you cancelled the plan. I gave her the scenario of getting it as a GoPhone and then leaving to go abroad. She said i could still use it as an iPod and movie played just not as a phone or get any EDGE data.
Seems like she's contradicting what feelthefire's been reading in the contract.![]()
What's a GoPhone? Is that AT&T's PAYG service, if it means changing the SIM then Apple have made it clear that it won't work??
Looks like AT&T staff are confused, I still say everybody just needs to wait. Not long now and members here will be giving definite answers....some of which will disagree![]()
OK sounds like that'd work then. We don't have similar plans here, it's either contract or straight PAYG.No GoPhone has a Pick Your Plan option which is just prepaying for a month of service with no contract with the same SIM, as in you would activate it as a GoPhone with the existing sim. Look it up on the website. ATT and Apple documentation said the GoPhone option is allowed only once you fail a credit check. So its possible i just need to fail a credit check which i cant
MPW: will you be getting an iPhone tonight?
What happens if you pay out $600, get home and fail the online registration/credit check, I wonder if the 10% restocking fee will be waived?
keep dreaming. their contract states that if you cancel in the 1st 30 days you have to turn in any equipment you bought with that contract. so they'll refund you the cost of the iPhone, probably minus more than 10%, and say peace out. you don't get to keep it unless you pay an ETF.
