Recently I found an iPhone 8 and took it home. Tried booting it up and of course it asked me for iCloud account, so I put the phone aside and forgot about it. Today I decided to try and bypass the iCloud, but the iPhone doesn't seem to charge. It's like completely dead. Weirdest part is that when I connect the dead phone to my PC, my computer instantly turns off. Wtf? Do you have any idea what's going on?

Okay, sure. Ignore the bypassing iCloud stuff. Why do you think it does not boot up? And when I connect it to my pc, the pc instantly shuts down?

First rule of thumb when dealing with found hardware: Do not, under any circumstances, plug it into your computer. It has the potential to contain all sort of nastiness that you really don't want your computer exposed to.

Beat me to it.

Unknown hardware is untrusted hardware. Either physical damage causing a short in the port you plug it into, or maybe malware infested.

Plus, it's someone else's device.

That last part is so true. It's no more ethical to look at a dropped device than to snoop in an unlocked home in my opinion.

If I found someone’s phone I would try to see if it can display and contact information. I have emergency contacts setup in the Medical ID section just for that scenario.

Locking thread, as we'll not entertain any discussion on how to bypass Apple's iCloud security. OP since this isn't your phone, turn it in to the authorities
