I came across some old paperwork, receipt etc for apple care for a mac laptop I have long since sold. The policy had expired before I sold the mac.

What should I do with it all now? I read on apple it can be transferred, but it seems only if I am selling the device the policy is with.

can this plan be transferred to a newer apple device I have now? or is it only for the mac I bought a long time ago?

It can be transferred if it's still active and the remaining time on the AppleCare policy will go to the other computer. As it's long since expired, you can't transfer it to a newer machine.

If you applied the AppleCare to a previous computer, there's no value to that paperwork at all. Recycle it.
You can transfer the balance of an AppleCare plan that isn't expired, or at least get a refund for it, but expired plans are expired.
If this is a sealed retail AppleCare package that's never been activated then you can most likely use that on a newer computer.

If the AppleCare has expired, there's no need to keep the paperwork.
Trash it.
