Neither. It’s an mSATA (mini SATA) drive.
chabig is correct. It is a mSATA drive. It is not an M2 drive of any type (SATA, NVME, nor AHCI).
Another possibly useful bit of information: This came out of Dell equipment, hence the "DP/N" on the label.
Thank you, that's very interesting to know. I have had it in a little USB enclosure for a long time which I opened up today to check.
I saw the OWC Accelsior PCIE card. I'm curious if I could use this little disk as a boot drive in my old cMP 2,1?
You just need a little mSATA - SATA adapter, they go for as low as £3 in the UK on eBay, and you can plug it into your Mac Pro.
Ah that's another way, thank you very much.
I mean you could use the OWC Accelsior card as well if you want to get full SATA-3 speeds (I used the same card it in a cMP 3,1 that I fixed up a few years back, to attach an SSD) but that's a SATA-PCIe card anyway so you'd still need a mSATA-SATA adapter.
Thank you, I understand. I actually meant the Accelsior M which I think takes mSATA drives but they seem difficult to find so an adopter with an ordinary Accelsior could be an option.
Would the drive run at full speed in one of the x4 slots?
Where are you based? That card seems in stock from OWC in the US for $25 (https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/PCIEACCELM/), or MegaMac in the UK for £23 (https://www.megamac.com/products/ow...HumQ0qDTPosxI54x8AruYGUGaAATRrrhoCArMQAvD_BwE).
But to be honest it doesn't seem worth it. The internal SATA-2 interface on your card will do up to 300Mbps, and the Accelsior M (pecause it's a x1 PCIe card) will 'only' reach 380Mbps - not enough of an increase IMO to justify the card.
The full-size Accelsior card, which is double the price, will run at full speed in the x4 slot (550Mbps). Up to you whether you think it's worthwhile for a 256GB drive.
