found yellow tinge source of problem. "solved"

Hi! While me and my friends were trying to figure out possible causes of this issue on LED screens, someone came up with the brilliant idea that the problem could be caused by the sound speakers.
His recently LED TV had the same problem. He found out that what was causing the yellowish tinge on his TV were the Sound Speakers.

Why?

Volume speakers use magnets, so the magnetic field was screwing up the colors on his tv tending to yellow. After having removed the Sound Speakers the yellow tinge disappeared in about 2/3 hours. I tried this on my led screen laptop with a magnet I had in the kitched, and guess what!!!!! It worked , color changed, not for yellow but it changed for sure.

The Sound Speakers on new imacs are near yellow tinge, that's why some people are getting it worse. I've reported to apple. Faulty design Quality Control.

If you have his tell us if you're using internal or external speakers. This may lead us to more clues. Thank you

the speakers are next to the areas where the yellow tinge appears, that's why some people are getting it worse. i've reported to apple, seems like a fail in design, it will only appear after having the magnet next to it, that's why they may have misset it.

But I do know what you mean about the magnets and screens. I used to have this problem with an old TV of mine.

imac use internal speakers. they have magnets. just try out a magnet on your imac screen on the top, you will be able to recreate the problem.

Although the idea seems good. I highly doubt that the apple enginers did not think of this... because the result of the magnet plus screen equation is known by most (at least people know not to put magnets on screens...)

Anyways, my point is, maybe on some imacs, the isolation of the screen from these magnets is faulty in some ways (have no idea of how they would do that)) but they used to have a magnet on the side of the screen for the remote and it never affected the screen.

It's a good idea tho, hope my imac will arrive without a yellow tinge, and i'll see if there is a difference when i use my external speakers... but there shouldnt because the imac speakers will still be there.

well theorically external speakers shouldn't affect it because they are not close enough to it, but nobody here tried to remove them yet to be 100% sure. i guess we are going to wait for apple to solve the issue.

LCD screens are not affected by magnetic fields. CRTs (tube type tvs and monitors) are, because magnetic fields are used to control where electrons hit the screen.

So, is it okay if I put my subwoofer on the floor underneath the desk that holds my new 27" iMac? And is putting the surround speaker about 6" away from the iMac also okay?

I'm just concerned that there is a difference between LCD and LED in being okay with magnetic fields. I know that I didn't have any problems with my LCD PBook being so close. Just worried that there might be a problem with the LED display.

it is not confirmed that the speakers are really causing this. it may just be a coincidence that magnets also cause yellow tinge. i always avoid having cellphones and so near no my screens and hard drives.

Honestly, youre an idiot if you put any type of larger magnet next to any computer, Imac or not. Smaller ones, eh fine, but a sub?

These are not LED displays but LCD displays with LED backlighting. Which is different to the LED screens we're now getting on TV's.

I have an i7 imac and I also "think" I have the yellow tinge. I say "think" as I'm not sure if I'm just seing the yellow because everyone else is

I see it if I'm sitting in front of the computer and have used it for a while, but if I leave the room and come back it appears to be gone until I start using it a little again.

To test this I have set the background of the desktop to be the solid white color, and when I return to the computer (no screensaver or blank screen activated) the the white color is white all over. After looking at the screen for a bit then I start to see the yellow tinge. So perhaps some of us are being hit by welders eyes

Other than that I have "only" 1 or 2 dust specks under the glass and I'm all in all happy with this mac (first all-in-one computer I've ever had)

And you can not see the difference because the whole screen is not in an ideal angle.

I think it's entirely the viewing angle. If I sit directly in front of mine, white is pure white and looks great, except perhaps the very last inch which is marginally off white. Marginally.

But if I crouch down to look directly at that, it's pure white again.

If I stand up and look at the screen, it has a much more obviosu gradient. Sit down in the user position and it's perfect again.

I suspect that those folk who have been looking at others screens (in a shop or at home) have been standing up, peering over someones shoulder. Whereas their own "perfect" screens are view sitting down.

Nope. Seated. On mine, the color temperature was very obviously warmer at the bottom than at the top. And I confirmed this from multiple viewing angles as well.

Any chance of a photo. I'm curious as to how bad it is on some screens vs others. In comparison to my Thinkpad, my iMac is exceptionally uniform in colour.

These are not LED displays but LCD displays with LED backlighting. Which is different to the LED screens we're now getting on TV's.

Most of the advertised LEDs are LCD w/ LED backlighting. So it is the same concept unless the tv is a True LED or OLED.

No it's when I get back in the room and sit in front of the imac. After looking at the very bright white screen I begin to see the yellow area to the lower right. But I can't help to think that it might be in my head and that I'm seeing "ghosts"

And honestly I don't think this is the right time to exchange the affected Imacs - give the production line a little more time then perhaps change the display/imacs - from the looks of it there's a high chance that the exchanged imac will also have the tinge.

This is my fear, too. And with having to wait a week for a replacement, I'm falling a bit behind in some of my work. Not good.

If my replacement has the same problem, I may take it to the Apple Store and let them deal with shipping it.
