Ok, so reading these threads here are pretty depressing. Im not going to bore you with a story.. here are the bullets

I bought a 15'' MBP 2.4GHz from the Apple Store with EDU Discount and Free iPod Nano - Its PERFECT, No issues. No Yellowing, Banding, Overheating, Physical problems, Nothing. Edit : LG Matte Screen

Added 4GB of Ram from Crucial.com. Perfect. No Issues installing.

I Installed all the updates, OS 10.4.10, MacBook Pro updates, Firmware updates, and Perfect, No issues. No Lagging, No Screen Issues Nothing.

The Machine is Bright as hell, Fast as hell, and overall the most outstaning peice of technology I have ever purchased.

Over all, I am completly satisifed with my exipraince and recommending EVERYONE that is on the edge of debating wether to buy a MacBook vs. MacBook Pro - To get the Pro. Its a much nicer machine. They Keyboard alot makes it worth it, not to mention the added screen realestate, and the Metal Case. It dosent feel like a toy.

Now, I just cant wait for Leopard & New iLife/iWork/Office 08

^^^ Good to hear that. I was getting really worried about this whole issue with crashes,over heating and screen problems. I was even considering about cancelling my order from Apple. I don't have the MBP delevired yet. Mine also has been delayed. I hope when mine gets here it will be as good as yours.

The reason reading these forums is depressing (generally, nothing against MR :p) is that a lot of the posts will be by users who have signed up especially just to complain about their brand new faulty MBP, those who aren't experiencing issues are far less likely to feel the need to sign up and post randomly about how great their MBP is.

I'm one of those who had a 1st Gen CoreDuo MBP, and also experienced a tonne of faults. However, I haven't lost faith, and Apple will hopefully be replacing my machine for a nice new reliable one.
 
My new SR MBP (15'', 2.4) is perfect. I had done a ridiculous amount of research prior to investing in this laptop. It's not but 4 days old and I've been sleeping about 2 hours a night, the other 22 hours is spent messing around with it.

Although the problems i've read about on this forum did scare me a little, I still took the plunge and am very excited about it. I have to agree, this is by far the most amazing piece of technology I have ever owned, even though I'm an early adopter.

Congrats to those who have perfect MBP's, and good luck to those who don't, we're all very forunate that Apple is a giving company. They care about their customers enough to say that even the slightest problem will be addressed.

Yep, that's about it. Look at these forums as you would a hospital. You don't find the 95% of the public that are healthy and fine in a hospital, you find the people that are injured or sick in a hospital. Same thing with these forums, the people that come here are the people that have a machine with a hardware problem, software problem, want to when to buy or what to buy, or have questions. You won't see the people that aren't having any problems.
 
i got the 2.2 with 2 gigs of ram and it's awesome. this is my first mac and i absolutely love it, i've never been so excited to use a computer before.
 
Reading these forums almost made my decision to get an MB, but after reading a few of these "My MBP is PERFECT!" threads, I am now going to buy myself an MBP, (When Leopard is Released)

Good analogy. I'm looking forward to my first mac and am hoping I get a perfect one too.
 
Mine has been perfect so far, purchased on July 6 at a local Apple reseller.No issues whatsoever, even did the jump to 10.4.10 a few days ago.No KP's, Wireless dropouts,flickering.--15.4" 2.4 Ghz, 160 GB, 2GB ram, 256 Vram, Week 24 LG matte screen.
 
im so glade to hear that someone is happy with his new mbp =D
im getting one in couple days...but kinda confused..all i have is the cash for a 2.2ghz mbp..even i thought its better to wait a little bet and get more money to get the 2.4 model(same as yours)..do you think theres a BIG different between 2.2(128 vcard) and 2.4(256 vcard)?! :rolleyes:
 
I'm in the store, I just got my 2.2 reserved and am going to line soon. I hope mine is the same. All the ones on display dont suffer from any of the problems that people talk about on the forum. Then again if you had a problem you would probably go to a mac forum to find out if others are having the problem and how to fix it. If you notebook is perfect you're going to go along wiht life. I would expect this forum to tell all problems and no positive.
 
I ordered my 2.4 15" on the day it was released. I also noticed there were a lot of people with problems, yellow rolling displays, a graveyard of dead pixels, too much thermal paste, etc...and now a new firmware update.
Personnaly I was also a bit worried about the temparature and thermal paste. Went to my local premium reseller and they told me it was fine.
MBP is a great machine, the display is absolutely great, my pictures now seem to be real. :)
I guess te reason for the depressing threads is the simple fact that people are mostly checking with these forums to find a solution for their problem or to look for people with the same problem.
When something works tiptop mostly you won't hear anybody about it...
it's like work, when you do great things you will never see anybody, make a mistake or do something else wrong and before the end of the day it has already been noticed. ;)
 
Once again I will chime in with my great experience with Macs. Since 2004, I have purchased 35-40 various Macs and never had a problem. Unfortunately, that record came to a halt yesterday with a Mini. I have not resolved the issue, so the cause is unknown. I will say, it was working fine out of the box (last week). I added more memory and did several installs, and configurations. So, it may not be an Apple issue at all. Regardless, Apple's record with me is darn near perfect.
 
Long time lurker, first time poster...

I'm a switcher and purchased MBP SR 2.4 on 6/6. No real problems whatsoever. The only serious issue is I keep wanting to spend money on things to install or attach to the thing.

Luckily, I've spent much time on forums over the years researching various products, so I take the negative posts with a grain of salt. Kind of like watching all the bad news on TV.
 
To those with the SR MBP that supposedly work, have you guys connected to a non-apple wireless router that requires wep/wpa while on battery?

If not check to see if your MBP is really perfect :)

Pretty sure mine is a non-apple wireless router. I believe it's the WGR614 Netgear router. Works find on battery and off.

Geez, I think you must have missed all the threads about dissastisfied Apple customers filling class-action lawsuits, lol.

Oh man, another zealot, I think you need to check yourself into AA before the problem takes over your life ;). Even a hottie like Jessica Alba as seen arriving for the 2005MTV Movie Awards couldn't get me to messing around with her 22hrs a day! Then again, sometimes I think I also need to check into AA (Alba's Anon) for the 12 step program :D
