Fox Digital copy won't copy? It says I need iTunes 7.6.2?

I have a Blu-Ray of X-Men Origins Wolverine that came with a Fox Digital Copy DVD. I want to put the movie on my computer so I can put it on my iPad, Apple TV, etc.

I put the Fox Digital Copy DVD in the drive, double clicked where it says "Double click to transfer movies to iTunes" and it opened iTunes. I then got the error "This Fox Digital Copy file requires iTunes version 7.6.2 or newer. Your current version of iTunes is 10.1.1" with the options "update" and "cancel"

Last time I checked, 10 is higher than 7. Anyone else ever run into this problem? Is there a way around it? I can't even figure out how to browse the DVD to get to the file and see if VLC or Handbrake will read it.
 
I just tried my copy, I got it months ago and never redeemed it:D And it worked fine under iTunes 10.1.1.4

As for the file, its on the disk in the DVDROM/Media folder, there are two files:-

XMen Origins - Wolverine.wmv - which is the windows media player version and
FeatureMovie - which is actually the iTunes version with no file extension

Try copying "FeatureMovie" to your hard drive and renaming it with a .m4v extension, then add it to iTunes and see if you can redeem your code.
 
Thanks. I just put in Iron Man 2, and it's appears to be downloading it from the iTunes store instead of transferring it from the disk. Weird, no?

I guess my Wolverine is just busted. I'll find a way around it...
 
OK, so it is transferring from the disc. It just showed up in Downloads. You'll have to excuse me, I'm hopped up on dayquill and Sudafed.
 
How to Bypass iTunes 7.6.2 Error

Hello Everyone,

This is an easy fix!

1. Open iTunes first, do not have the digital copy disc in your computer.
2. Once iTunes is open, verify that nothing is blocking access to the internet through iTunes (check this by clicking on the iTunes store, if it connects, you're good to go)
3. Now put the Digital Copy Disc in your computer
4. Ignore the auto pop up window and go right into the iTunes Window (close the auto pop up window)
5. On the left hand side under devices, click on the movie that shows up there.
6. Enter the 16 digit serial number in the window on the right and click redeem code.
7. It will ask you to sign in to your iTunes account. Sign in. (if you do not have an iTunes account because it requires a credit card, just go to the iTunes store and choose a free app to download, then create an account. While creating an account, the option will now come up under credit card as none (this will work on an iphone as well) so you can create an account without having to input any credit card information.
8. The digital copy will begin to transfer.

The key is to open itunes without the disc in the drive, then put the disc in after iTunes is already open. This will bypass the error you are getting above.

I'd say the problem in this frankenthread was solved by sudafed and dayquil.
 
Same Problem, Bad solutions!

Hello i am having the same problems, but none of your solutions work! I have itunes on a External Hard Drive, I have itunes version: 10.5.2.11 I getting my digital Copy of "Taken". It menu pops up, I click on "Transfer Digital Copy", it asks me "Transfer to itunes" or "Transfer to Windows Media Player". I chose itunes, it then tells me "This apllication requires Itunes 7.6 or higher". I go onto itunes itself, click on "Taken" in the left-hand corner, then I input my redeem code, and click on the "Redeem" button. I give it my Apples account password and click, then it tells me "The code you entered is not recognized as a valid code". Understand that I have entered this code multiple times with the same result, each time entering it very carefully each time! Any SIMPLE solutions would be greatly appreciated! Nothing crazy and complicated.
 
You might want to check if the digital copy has an expiration date. Some movies won't let you redeem your code after a certain amount of time.

Just a thought.

While the disc might have been new when you bought it, the fact is that movie has been out since May 12, 2009. If you look at the piece of paper that has the redeem code on it there is probably something in the small writing that says the free digital copy code will expire on a certain date, or that they can choose to discontinue the offer at any time.

I myself have ran across expired free digital copy certificates many times, and have to either rip the movie myself, or deal with not having a portable copy of the movie. I have now started to open all movies as I get them and transfer the digital copies then, rather than waiting until I actualy want to take the movie with me on a device. This helps me avoid the digital copy expiring before I get it transferred to my computer (I buy most movies on release day).
 
Those digital copies expire. Taken expired months ago.
Your choices are rip (Handbrake + VLC are excellent) or get Netflix as Taken is one of the movies available.

I don't understand what the Digital copy is good for, it's DRM and only plays on the PC it was downloaded on. I guess if you travel and watch movies on your laptop but for home use meh.

I was buying DVD's that included digital copies (often a dollar or two more) so that I wouldn't have to rip them. But than I ran across the DRM issue when trying to move them around and of course the expired code. From that point on, I refused to spend extra to get a digital copy, I'll just save the few bucks and rip it myself.

Sorry, but movie studios just don't get it; they are acting exactly like the music companies in the 90's.

I'm having the exact same issue with Taken and 2012. I was able to do X-Men origins last week but now can't transfer digital files.

Wow reading further down the page I see the explanation of Digital Copies expiring...Wow that makes littlle sense but that appears to be the issue.

I will just add one thing. I recently bought Rambo (the latest one from like 2008 or something). It had a Digital copy and it expired at least a year ago. However, to my total amazement, the copy succeeded. So while the expiration may indeed be the issue, I have to wonder if all the studios are enforcing the expiration dates
