It's amazing how little we know about the release date of this product! There is no speculation whatsoever. I wish it woould come out soon though...:(

This thread subject has been seen quite a few times - and its still amazes me that nothing has come about, no rumors, nothing. I'm wondering if its going to be a rather large update, incorporating some of the aquired software Apple's absorbed over the past couple years and we won't see it till MWNY. It will probably be a bit more expensive, since they've just come out with the FCP lite version that does most of day to day stuff.

I would be willing to bet that FCP 4 has at least.

1. Better Titling coming from the Prismo Graphics purchase.

2. Better Project Management. Users seem to lament the current setup.

3. Optimized for even more speed.

4. Improved Native Compositing. Sure Shake is available but FCP 4 needs better Compositing right in the App. Apples purchase of Silicon Grail and RAYZ/Chalice would help here.

5. I think Audio will even be revamped. Perhaps some Engineering talent from Emagic might lend a hand.

i'm still thinking a release at NAB.

BUT could apple be waiting for the next generation hardware before releasing it?
apple likes surprising people and annoying other hardware/software companies, could some optional hardware be offered. like an uncompressed capture card?

I don't see why effects like stills and speed changes can be previewed in real time in iMovie but not in FCP (on my FP iMac).

I use stills in FCP and as long as you use the correct settings making the stills you don't need to render them. And in regads to previewing speed changes, in FCP new frames are actually created where in iMovie it just looks like that certian frames are doubled to make the clip last longer. The FCP speed change (slow down in this example) is a much cleaner, smoother looking effect.

RE: Media management. The current setup itself isn't really bad, it's just not reliable<sp?> enough.
