Counter-strike source CS:S is very new to mac os x and I can't for the life of me find out how to get my Frames Per Second UP. I'm running an average of 15 FPS with a max of 20 out of combat and 8 in combat. This is a serious disadvantage when trying to pop counter terrorist's blue berry heads with my scout.

If anyone has any clue on getting that FPS up, I would love to read it. The only solution I haven't tried is getting a new video card.

I have a iMac os x version 10.5.5
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

I also have no clue what my current video card is called. Probably the stock that comes with every new iMac. :apple:

Additional info might help us figure out what's wrong.

What graphics settings are you using and do you have any other applications open in the background?

Unfortunately you can't upgrade the iMac's video card, but you can find out what kind it is by going to About This Mac > More Info > Graphics/Displays. Fortunately, all (Intel) iMacs have graphics chips capable of playing this game.

Don't you need 10.5.8 minimum? You should update it anyway. And yeah, what graphics cards and settings are you running?

Valve employee rbarris has stated that most performance gains (these are expected in the future) will be via driver updates and Apple will only be releasing new drivers for 10.6. Eventually you'll need to upgrade your OS X version.

That's quite an alarming statement. Got a link?

Your computer is about 3 years old... On OS X, the game is "optimized" for newer computers unfortunately.

Set anti-alias to none
Reduce resolution

I have the exact same specs as you in my macbook, and the game runs alright. I have all of the visual settings on the lowest option, have a low resolution, and play in servers that have less than 40 people in them. However, I do have 10.6, though I'm not sure that makes a difference.

If you have 10.5.6,update your os since the min req is 10.5.8

Minimum: OS X version Leopard 10.5.8, Snow Leopard 10.6.3, 1GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8 or higher, or ATI X1600 or higher, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

Many time in the discussion forum,The developers have stated for best performance ,you need 10.6.
Also ppl benchmark have increased with 10.6.3 over 10.5.8 (just not with 10.6.4,lol)

Retail copy of 10.6,is only under 30$.
