hey,

i searched on this topic and i saw a few topics, i didnt quiet get the whole thing because they were talking about getting new drivers so i wasnt sure if they were complaing using windows on a mac cuz i didnt know you could use nvidia windows drivers for macs.

anyway i installed unrealtournament 2004 a couple days ago and it was great i was playing it at 1650x1050 with my MBP 4.1 2.5ghz 2gb ddr2 Gefore 8600GT M and i was getting like 80fps now i only get like 40fps.
i looked if there are new patches for it but its already up to the newest one.
so as i was skimming thru all those threads about stuf they had a website with laptopdriver2go or something like that and i was looking at it and i only saw windows drivers on there.
i also went on the apple.com website to see if theres a drivers...nope.

any help?

thanks

New drivers for Mac will come through Software Update (as part of a 10.5.x update, for instance). If you've checked Software Update then you have the latest.

Did anything else change? Did you update your version of OS X? Tweak some UT2004 setting? (Some settings might need UT2004 to restart before they truly take effect--I'm not certain.) Does Activity Monitor show some app hogging CPU time? Are you running on a soft surface? (Laptops get hotter on soft surfaces, and your Mac will slow down to keep itself cool.)

One simple thing to try: restart the Mac.

Also be aware that one map vs. another (and even facing one direction vs. another) can make a BIG fps difference. So can the number of bots present, and the number of effects currently happening on-screen. Also, hosting is more demanding than just joining a server. Are you seeing a fps drop in the exact SAME situation?

ya i tried rebooting the computer, this problem has been going on for 2 days now and i only installed the game like 4 days ago, so i rebooted a couple of times.
my MBP is on a hard surface (desk) i have the lid open to make it cool better i got smcFancontrol running on full speed.
also i didnt tweak anything on the ut interface. i didnt upgrade any mac software after i installed ut2004.
so i dont really have an explanation for it, and that is why i wanted to hear the opinion of you guys.
im usually more a ATI person so this is my first nvidia computer, and i know the card cant me that crappy, that i only get the little fps.

thanks for the reply guys...:)

I read somewhere that taking the cover off of your computer so it can breath better is actually bad. I never payed any attention to the article until now, and apparently it can get worse because dust and whatever else is in your little atmosphere can clog up the system pretty badly. I don't know. I'm not an expert on computers or anything, I just enjoy them, and so I try to keep mine running as much as the next guy.

Hope I helped. :)

I think you just have to keep experimenting to find the one thing that changed at the moment the framerate dropped. Something changed. Hopefully something simple, like a poorly-optimized map loading, rather than something breaking!
