Apple is now running a deal where you get a free pair of AirPods when you buy a MB or iPad (or pay $90 for AirPods Pro). I bought my 2020 IPP with Pencil and Magic Keyboard in April when stores were closed. I need the iPad for med school but I asked Apple if they were going to do this deal and they told me no at the time...does anyone think I have a chance of calling customer service and getting a pair of AirPods because of this?

Yeah the trick is that you had to buy it via the apple education store with a valid .edu email address. But I believe this started in June of this year, so if you bought it in April, unfortunately I don’t think you could be grandfathered into the deal. But I would say it doesn’t hurt to call customer service to at least ask! Make sure you tell them you’re a student and recently bought an iPad. Please let us know the result if you do!

Valid? It cannot be faked?
Another good question, I’m not sure actually. I’ve never bought anything through the educational store, so I have no idea if they verify it. But I know for the Apple Music student discount, they send an email to the .edu email to verify that you’re still an active student to actually get the half off.

For apple educational, in Italy, you have to register yourself in unidays with an university’s email address. They verify your data and then you can use discount on edu store.

Incorrect. Anyone can get it as long as you buy from the educational store. That’s how I got mine plus $100 off my iPad Pro 12.9

There’s no verification system in place for purchasing online through the US education store; it’s on the honor system. During the final purchase page you check a box acknowledging you meet eligibility criteria as well as agreeing to the possibility of them needing to contact you in the future for random auditing/verification purposes. If they contact you and you aren’t able to prove eligibility, they reserve the right to charge your credit card the difference at that time.

Which so far they have never done.

I wouldn't go so far as to say never, but the odds do seem extremely low and unlikely from all the anecdotal evidence I've seen over the years. I personally think Apple wants people to take advantage of the discounts and seemingly don't care for the most part. They could make a more stringent verification process if they chose to do so, like they do with their military/veterans discounts.

No.
