I had a free app (Twit) that was giving me trouble. So, I deleted it to see if a reinstall would solve the problem. Whe I went to reinstall, I saw it had become a paid app. Since I previously downloaded this app, will I be charged if I press the purchase button?

No

I wish they'd offer refunds like the Android Marketplace. Soooo much better.

I agree. It's hard to tell exactly what you're buying based on the ridiculous description, irrelevant reviews and worthless screen shots. They should at least offer a 24 hour trial period.

I don't think it would be too hard for them to offer a 12 hour trial period. Then once the 12 hours are up, if the app is still on your phone you get charged, if you've deleted it you don't get charged.

But of course this will never happen, because Apple is a greedy corporate machine, who wouldn't dare do anything that might lessen their profits.

Well, they are a business.

And your model sounds ridiculous.

I know they're a business, the smilie at the end of my comment was supposed to imply that it was light-hearted. But I'm not surprised you didn't get that, judging by your blunt and quite rude response.

Why does it sound ridiculous?

Call the Apple Store they can & will take care of it & give you a refund. They did it for me.

Why come here with your tale of woe, no one here can help you?

I don't think you understand the situation.....

The OP isn't after a refund, they merely want to know if they will be charged for re-downloading an app that was free when they originally downloaded it, but is now a paid app.

People here can help with information they may have from being in a similar situation (not unlikely). In fact....several people have already given the OP an answer.

I WISH Apple would get rid of the "buy" button for apps that you had already downloaded

I would like to have it say "free download" or something to avoid this confusion

Amen. I guess they don't want the back end doing any actual work unless there's the possibility of making some money off of it. Yes yes, giggidy giggidy. :)

Totally agree; Apple should dump that "BUY" button. OP, I've been in the same boat trying to explain that exact same process to "The War Department" way too much and in fact, she thinks the App Store charges are FREE...:p

Trials could be useful but *some* apps, are actually used and consumed in less than 12 hours... it's simply not a choice for that kind of apps to have a trial version. I would be happy to have trials for my apps instead that are intended to be used for a long time. Lite version aren't usually the answer for a number of reasons.

Anyway refunds are possible, even if the "rule" is that all sales are final.
I personally suggest users that have bought my apps and later find they have misunderstand the app description to ask for refund to iTunes and at least a few have confirmed they was successful.

For the "buy" button, I think Apple has not yet changed it into "free download" for apps you already own because it would be a big performance hit for iTunes or AppStore app to check every single app against your app sale history to decide which button to show, at least on app lists.
