do you mean Apple TV Plus?
Apple has gotten really bad with the nomenclature with heir products and services over the past few years. So many people confuse Apple TV, Apple TV+, and Apple's TV app.

What I don't really get ...
In case I buy every year one Apple product which is eligible for "one year free Apple TV+ subscription", then I never have to pay the subscription at all, right? At least this is my understanding.

I wonder, because last year I bought a new iPhone and I have until 12th November 2020 the free AppleTV+ subscription.
In June I bought the new 2020 MacBook Pro 13", but the "expiration" date for ApplelTV+ has not changed yet.

Is this normal?

I thought it was something like you get the first year free and then have to pay. Would be nice if someone would clear this up.

It's not the way it works. You get one free AppleTV+ trial per family regardless of how many devices you buy. See my post above #10 for the promo terms and conditions link.
