free mac dvd/cd burning software

anyone know if there is any free dvd/cd burning software anywhere?

I agree, the Finder works great if you want to burn normal backup's...If you want to spend some money, I would buy Toast.

There is a program called discblaze which is very good and a cheaper alternative to toast.....the demo version gives you 5 free burns,

Same comment as already stated. The finder works great for burning CDs/DVDs and they work cross platform too. Save your money and buy some blank DVDs.

The problem I have is the DVD burner is not compatable with burning from the finder, it's spec:-

So I can't burn unless I spend 25x£60=£1500 on Toast for this lab of 25 iMacs. The reason was, what we got wasn't what we ordered, by the time I'd noticed we had dispatched with all the packaging and stuck security tabs on the burners, and although the retailer admits it their error it's too late to return the burners.

The drives did not come with any free utilities? My external CD-R/RW came with Toast Lite, a free version of Toast offered by Lacie. Check the documents that came with the burners to see if anything was supplied or try to get the retailer to own up to the mistake and give you a license to Toast.

As zim mentioned: Are you sure the burners didn't come with Toast included? I have a external firewire LaCie burner, and that came with the full version of Toast Titanium.

it's all PC software that came bundled I'm afraid.

Assuming that you're using OSX will some of these do? The freeware ones are always worth a test drive. If you're on OS9 then Version Tracker holds no joy for you
If the retailer admits they're at fault won't they cut you a deal on some software, even if you can't return the burners?

What kind of lab? If it's for a school I would try getting in touch with Roxio, explain the situation and ask if the, by any chance, have some sort of educational pricing. Many companies give away, or at least charge very little for software when you contact them directly wanting software for educational use.

Just a thought, and the worse answer you can get is "no"...

if your burner isn't natively supported in os x you should use patchburn. it should allow you to use your burner in all the i-apps as well as finder. i used it on my nec dvd burner in 10.3.9 and it worked great, but i haven't used it in 10.4 because my burner is now natively supported.
