does this mean apple isnt charging 1.99 and is now giving it away for free?

Does your Macbook show the wireless adapter as being 802.11n compatible? If so, then you've got the update for free.

Me, I'm waiting for OSX 10.5. I expect the update to be included in that.

No. This is a standard security and stability update. It does not provide N capabilities.

go to utilities>network utilities> and switch it to en1 and it will say at the bottom if it's a/b/g or a/b/g/n

You have to purchase the new Airport Extreme or buy the $1.99 updater. I hear there is a torrent going around with it though, no clue about where to look for it. However, it is two bucks and well worth it. I just got it, and set up an N network between a MacBook and MacBook Pro. It was sweet.

What I heard, it's not a torrent (maybe the walkthrough is). It's something you have to do in Terminal to activate it but I honestly don't know what and I don't care.

the torrent has the same software that apple is selling for $1.99... I doubt if apple cares about the torrent being out there... 'coz from what I heard, they are charging that small fee to avoid some legal complications... they wouldn't mind you getting it from your friends... ;)

No you still have to buy it (though the licence allows you to install it on any machines you administer.), it is only $2 though, you can't even buy a beer with that ;).

no problems at all. and even though I don't have an N router, my current wireless connection never drops like it used to do quite often.
